Overview

Bed-Stuy Fish Fry stands as a vibrant seafood haven nestled in the heart of Brooklyn at 940 Fulton Street. This restaurant captures the essence of soulful comfort food, blending rich flavors with a down-to-earth dining experience that resonates deeply with both locals and visitors seeking authentic soul food fare.

The star of the menu here is undeniably the fried fish, a classic done with care and seasoning that makes each bite memorable. Alongside this, the salmon dishes shine—whether grilled or baked, paired lovingly with creamy macaroni and cheese and well-prepared vegetables. The Chicken Dinner Platter is another crowd-pleaser, offering hearty sides like mashed potatoes and mac & cheese that feel like a warm embrace from a home-cooked meal. For those who enjoy a touch of variety, options such as the Catfish Dinner, Whiting Fish and Chips, and Whiting with fries bring delightful diversity, always accompanied by classic condiments like ketchup and tartar sauce.

Beyond seafood, Bed-Stuy Fish Fry embraces a full range of soul food staples—turkey meatloaf, BBQ chicken with yams and greens, and even a highly praised fried chicken and waffles combo. The peach cobbler and German chocolate cake add a sweet finish to this comforting, well-rounded menu. The kitchen’s commitment to large portions and hearty flavors is evident, though some dishes like the oxtail can occasionally tip toward being overly salty, a minor note in an otherwise positive culinary symphony.

The atmosphere at Bed-Stuy Fish Fry is unique—it operates as a takeout-centric spot rather than a sit-down venue, which makes it perfect for those craving soul food on the go or looking to bring the flavors home. The space is kept clean and efficient, with customer service increasingly marked by warmth and attentiveness, a shift noted and appreciated by regular patrons.

This establishment caters primarily to a diverse crowd that includes families, seafood lovers, and soul food enthusiasts who value genuine, flavorful meals without unnecessary fuss. Its location in Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy neighborhood positions it as a community staple, evoking a sense of belonging and tradition through its dishes.

In sum, Bed-Stuy Fish Fry delivers an authentic taste experience defined by rich, soulful dishes, sizable portions, and a no-frills approach that puts the food front and center. Whether you’re drawn by the fish, the mac & cheese, or the myriad comforting sides, this spot remains a cherished anchor in Brooklyn’s food landscape.

Got the oxtail with Mac n cheese, and collard greens. I’m sorry the oxtail was a lil bit too salty that’s why I give it a 3 star. That was disappointing. Their pieces were big though. The Mac n cheese was good, had a nice pull which was surprising! Collard greens also good. No pork in this restaurant so I appreciated that.

I cannot rate atmosphere, there is ni where to eat in. To Go only restaurant. I must say Fulton Street and St. James store customer Service has got much better. Those young girls he use to have at the counter had attitudes that were unpleasant. The young ladies and gentlemen are much more polite. The food is pretty good. The fried fish is my favorite. The cabbage is a hit or miss. Sometimes it can be very crunchy with no taste. I usually stick with the Yams and Spinach, side of potatoe salad.
